Elastic Limits

  • The spring constant indicates the elastic ability of a material.  
  • If a material is stretch beyond a certain point it will never return to the original length or shape. 
  • This point is known as the elastic limit. 
  • An object stretched beyond its elastic limit will be permanently deformed.
  • The graph below illustrates how a material behaves when stretched beyond the elastic limit.
